What is Baptism:

At Downtown Community Church we believe Baptism is the outward expression of an inward decision an individual has made to follow Christ. DCC believes baptism is a symbol of a restored relationship with God through faith in Jesus.

Who Should Get Baptized?

If someone has made a profession of faith, then he or she should get baptized (Matthew 28:18-19). Therefore, if you have made a public decision to follow Christ, we encourage you to get baptized.

How we do Baptisms at DCC?

At DCC we believe baptisms should be a celebration of God bringing you from death to life. Because of that we currently hold baptisms twice a year during our services. Prior to someone getting baptized they will meet with one of our pastors and film a short testimony video to help share their story with our church.

Guidelines for getting Baptized at DCC:

  1. You have made a decision to follow Jesus Christ with your whole heart

  2. You regularly attend DCC

  3. You’ve attended our baptism class or met with a pastor (We’ll contact you after you sign up)

What is Child Dedications:

Child dedication is a public commitment you make before God, your church and your family. The dedication provides the parents with an opportunity to express publicly their desire to lead and spiritually grow their children in a manner worthy of the gospel.

Why we do Child Dedications:

The biblical history of child dedications comes from 1 samuel 1:27-28 where Hannah, after years of praying for a child, received her son Samuel. Her immediate response was:

“For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.”

Furthermore we see in Luke 2 the dedication of Jesus in the temple by Mary and Joseph. This public declaration is the parents way of says, Lord we completely entrust our child to You.

Guidelines for Child Dedications at DCC:

  1. DCC must be your home church

  2. Parents must be committed to following Jesus

  3. We ask that the parents regularly attend DCC

  4. We ask that parents who are not married but are living together to take steps to acknowledge and surrender their relationship to the Lord

  5. You've attended our Child Dedication class or met with a pastor (We’ll contact you after you sign up)
